Lise
L. Luttgens Named CEO of
Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles
Lise
L. Luttgens has been selected as the Chief
Executive Officer for the soon-to-be-formed
Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles.
The new Girl Scout council will be the
result of a historic merger of six Los
Angeles area legacy Girl Scout councils.
Angeles Girl Scout Council, Girl Scout
Council of Greater Long Beach, Girl Scouts -
Joshua Tree Council (southeastern
portion), Girl Scouts - Mt. Wilson Vista
Council, Girl Scouts - Spanish Trails
Council, and Girl Scouts of the San
Fernando Valley are participating in an
ongoing merger process to form a single
council that will serve Girl Scouts
throughout the greater Los Angeles community
and parts of San Bernardino County. Luttgens
will begin her role Sept. 1, 2008, planning
the formation of the new council that will
begin operating on Dec. 1, 2008.
The new structure will make the most
effective use of resources to better serve
local communities and create more
opportunities in Girl Scouting for even more
girls. The six merging legacy councils have
been diligently working toward this
transition since October, 2007 and are
committed to a smooth and seamless process.
Girl
members and adult volunteers can expect the
full continuation of quality program
delivery and volunteer services during the
merger process. Beyond that, girls and
volunteers will see expanded programs,
greater access to camps and other program
facilities, more opportunities for girls,
and increased visibility for Girl Scouts.
Girls, volunteers and council staff are
currently realizing the benefits as the
merging legacy councils have already begun
work together on programs, volunteer
trainings, fund raising, and other
activities.
Luttgens was selected following a national
CEO search by Morris & Berger Executive
Search Consultants. Luttgens, a former Girl
Scout, brings with her demonstrated
leadership and specialized expertise through
her work with several reputable nonprofit
organizations. She founded the Los
Angeles-based firm Luttgens & Associates,
Inc., in 2001, which specializes in
nonprofit and health care organizations, and
has built a successful coaching and
consulting practice that focuses on
organizations and individuals in transition.

“I am
thrilled to be able to serve the girls and their
volunteer leaders through the realignment to a new
council,” said Luttgens. “Leading during this time of
transformation and creating a new structure for these
young women is a wonderful next step. I am very excited
to be working with the existing CEOs, their staffs, and
their boards to achieve a smooth transition and create a
new vision for Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles.”
Most recently, Luttgens served as interim CEO of Ronald
McDonald House Charities® of Southern California during
a transition of unifying six operating entities more
closely into one organization. From 2003 to 2005 she
served as chief operating officer for the Fulfillment
Fund. There she established business systems and
processes while realigning operations and the financial
structure to serve students in the LA Unified School
District. Luttgens worked at Childrens Hospital Los
Angeles (CHLA) from 1996 to 2001 as the senior vice
president and chief operating officer. Her key
accomplishments at CHLA included implementing a quality
management system, leading a cost restructuring effort,
and overseeing the planning and construction of the $67
million Marion and John Anderson Building.
“We are pleased to have found a person like Lise who has
experience in dealing with challenging situations and
organizations in transition,” said Phyllis E. Currie,
chair of the CEO Search Committee. “We were impressed
with the leadership qualities, the communication skills
and the energy she demonstrates. We believe these
qualities will be invaluable in making Girl Scouts of
Greater Los Angeles the high-capacity council that we
envision.”
Luttgens received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from
Beloit College in Wisconsin, a master’s degree in public
health (hospital administration) from Yale University’s
School of Medicine, and an advanced fellowship in
academic medical center administration from the
University of Michigan. She completed the Executive
Management Program from the UCLA Anderson Graduate
School of Management and received certification from the
College of Executive Coaching. Luttgens is vice
president of the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles
Ronald McDonald House and past president of the
Organization of Women Executives. Luttgens is a resident
of the Palisades Highlands and has been a Palisades
resident since 1984. She is also the mother of a
19-year-old daughter who is currently attending Colorado
College.
The local Girl Scout council merger is part of a
national transformation of the Girl Scout Movement to
modernize the iconic organization and renew focus on
leadership development for girls.
The six councils are among over 280 Girl Scout councils
from throughout the country that are realigning under a
national reorganization plan designed by Girl Scouts of
the USA to create high performance, community-focused
councils with strengthened infrastructures. The process
aims to revitalize the premier leadership development
program and to remain compelling, contemporary and
relevant to today’s girls.
Lise will lead a council with a $14 million operating
budget and a staff of 185 housed at five regional
offices. While the geographic boundaries of the council
will change, the mission to build girls of courage,
confidence and character, who make the world a better
place, is unwavering. Council volunteers and staff
remain fully committed to providing relevant and quality
program opportunities for girls and look forward to
bringing the strengths of the six councils together for
their benefit.
The new Los Angeles area council will be among the
largest councils across the nation, with an initial
enrollment of approximately 50,000 girls and nearly
22,000 volunteers.
