Having been a Girl Scout for twelve years, I've accumulated quite a few Scouting memories. Most of them are good. But there was one thing that dogged my heels through all my years as a Girl Scout and irked me enough that I decided to do something about it. Whenever I got home from a field trip, finished watching a movie, or had a discussion with a family member, I invariably found out the next day that I could have completed a badge if I done just a bit more. This happened enough times that I decided to devote my Gold Award project to helping others in the same predicament: troop leaders, home-school educators, and Brownie Girl Scouts in general.

With this database I've compiled, you can search by Event instead of having to flip through the entire Try-Its for Brownie Girl Scouts book for applicable Try-It activities before heading out the door. For instance, if a leader was planning a camping trip and wanted to find badge activities that would fit, she could go to the Outdoors category then select Camping, Outdoor Skills, Hiking, or another Event. Under Outdoor Skills, for instance, there are ten different activities from multiple badges that you can complete while learning Outdoor Skills. If a homeschool educator was teaching her daughter science, she might choose to look at the Biology and Nutrition Class or Science Class page under Education. Because there are over fifteen different badges represented in the Science Class section alone, you can see how much time one can save by using this database.

From these Event pages, you can follow the links to Try-It pages, (for example, Girl Scout Ways), where a Try-It is listed with all its Activities and all the Events those Activities can be found in.  Every Try-It (as of November 2006) with all its Activities is listed. The only exceptions to this are the "Our Troop's Own" and the "Our Council's Own" Try-Its, which are unique for each troop or council, respectively.

It's my hope that this database will make your Girl Scout life at least a little bit easier, so if you have any comments or questions, please e-mail me at lynnsgoldaward@yahoo.com and I will try to respond as quickly as possible. Have a great time earning Try-Its!
